The Puppy Classes are designed to get you and your new addition off to the right start. It is important to develop good communication and consistency with your puppy right away.

Your puppy is learning things every day, some of those behaviors you may not want him to learn.

Puppy I - a course designed for puppies 10wks to 5mo of age. This course is similar to kindergarten. The main focus is attention and socialization so that the puppy can learn to focus among many distractions. This will become a great foundation for all other training as the puppy matures.

Lesson plans include:
  • Loose Leash Walking w/distractions
  • Coming when called w/distractions
  • Leave It! - don't look/don't touch
  • Settle - they learn to target to a designated settle spot and relax
  • Wait
  • Watch - a cue that means 'look at me'
  • Sit - quick sit on cue and sitting for greeting
  • Tricks - the class is assigned different tricks to practice with the puppy.
  • Recess! The group gets free play time to socialize and learn how to interact with other puppies.

Puppy II

This is a continuation class for Puppy I grads. Sometimes younger puppies repeat the first class before going on if they need some additional work in the attention department. This class begins to teach the basic obedience cues that we teach in the adult classes.

Lesson Plan Includes:

  • Heel - the formal walking position beside the handler
  • Automatic Sit - sits when handler stops
  • Sit & Down Stay
  • Coming when called with more distractions
  • Stand
  • Distraction proofing
  • Recess! Proper socialization is the key to a well rounded dog and in this class we continue to offer brief free play time so that all of the puppies have a chance to interact.

The first year of a puppy's life is the most important. The environment around the puppy is constantly giving him feedback and he is learning how to interact in it. Without the proper guidance he can be learning things that will make him a nuisance or cause him to not have the proper social skills when he matures.
