Nose Work Seminar

Basic Obedience classes are designed for dogs 6 months and older that have not been to puppy class. Many dogs have been taught some basic obedience commands by the time they are 6 months old but have a difficult time performing any commands when they are in the presence of other people and dogs. Whether or not you have started working on the basics having a safe and controlled environment to work your dog to get him used to distractions is an important part of the process of training.

Beginning I
This class is designed for dogs 6 months and older who have not been to any other classes before. On occasion the Puppy II grads will come to this class so that they can proof the exercises before going on to the next level. Even if your dog can perform some of these exercises at home it is very different bringing them to a room with other people and dogs and asking for attention.

Lesson Plan Includes:
  • Loose Lead Walking
  • Heel w/automatic Sit
  • Sit and Down Stay
  • Leave It!
  • Settle
  • Coming when called
  • Sit for Greeting

We make sure that you have practice in class that will translate to the 'real world'. The interaction around the other dogs is designed to simulate going to the park or walking down the street past distractions.

Proofing Class

This class is for Beginning I and Puppy II graduates. We will work to improve reliability on all of the basic behaviors. Dogs and handlers will be challenged with distractions.

Beginning II

This is a continuation class. The exercises in this class are designed to proof you and your dog to a higher level of performance. We add a lot of new distractions to the exercises you have learned above and add some new exercises to add to your dog's vocabulary.

Lesson Plan Includes:

  • Proofing all of the exercises in Beginning I
  • Front  & Finish - additional parts of the recall exercise
  • Recall Proofing - lots of distractions!
  • Stand/Stay
  • Drop - a quick down at a distance
  • Voice Control - work on less leash control
  • Doodling - working on getting your dog to find the right position

Many people get the 'obedience bug' after this class and decide they might want to compete in obedience with their dogs. No matter what your goals may be this class will help proof your dog and help you both to become more consistent with your training.
